Blueland’s New Packaging: What Changed & What Stayed the Same

Updated: March 25, 2026

You may have noticed that our packaging recently underwent some updates, and we know that any change can feel notable—particularly when sustainability is part of why you chose us.
To make it simple, we’ve outlined what we’ve changed, what we haven’t, and the “why” behind these decisions.
Why We Updated Our Packaging
From the beginning, our pouches were designed to work in tandem with our reusable Forever Tins. The original tear-open pouch was industrially compostable and intentionally simple, created for the purpose of storing tablets until they could be transferred into a sturdier, longer-lasting container.
Over time, we noticed our customers using their pouches in a variety of different ways. Some people loved using their Forever Tins, others preferred keeping tablets in the original pouch, and some wanted the option to reseal the original packaging for added convenience. At the same time, as we expanded into more retail locations, we also needed a packaging format that would sit upright on shelves.
Through extensive material testing and supplier collaboration, we optimized the pouch material to reduce total paper and liner thickness (moving from a 3-layer to a 2-layer pouch) while still achieving the same barrier properties to protect the quality of the product inside—still industrially compostable and up to our high sustainability standards, but now resealable to offer more flexibility.
Our Latest Innovation: The New Resealable Pouch
The updated pouch features:
-
A plant-based zipper
-
The ability to reseal after opening
-
A flat-bottom design allowing it to sit upright
For customers who prefer to keep using their Forever Tin, the resealable pouch still allows easy refills. For those who would rather reseal and store in original packaging, our new pouch makes it easy.
Most importantly, our new resealable pouch is industrially compostable, just like the original pouch—even the plant-based zipper. The pouch has been tested by third-party laboratories against recognized standards such as ASTM D6400 and EN 13432, which evaluate biodegradation, disintegration, eco-toxicity, and heavy metal thresholds to ensure the material is suitable for commercial composting environments.
If industrial composting isn’t accessible where you live, our team can help coordinate a pouch return to ensure proper disposal. Email help@blueland.com for assistance!

What Has Not Changed
While our packaging has evolved, the foundation of our business has not:
-
Our Formulas: The tablets inside remain the same microplastic-free formulas with the performance you’ve come to expect.
-
Our Sustainability Standards: We continue to prioritize third-party certifications and material health standards with certifications like EPA Safer Choice, Cradle to Cradle, Certified B Corp status, and Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certification.
-
Our Mission: We remain committed to building a movement for a cleaner, healthier planet and focused on reducing single-use plastic in your everyday cleaning routines.

Frequently Asked Questions
The new pouch is not made from conventional petroleum-based plastic. Instead, it is made from certified industrially compostable materials (including the zipper) and is designed to break down in commercial composting environments.
No. The formulas inside the packaging have not changed. The cleaning performance, ingredients, and certifications remain the same. This update applies only to the structure of the outer pouch.
The resealable zipper allows for easier storage after opening and provides added protection from moisture. It also gives customers the flexibility to store tablets directly in the pouch if they prefer.
Yes. The new pouch works seamlessly with our Forever Tins, and you can continue using them if that’s your preferred storage option.
The pouch is designed for industrial composting and should be disposed of at a commercial composting facility where available. We evaluate compostability using globally recognized standards, via third-party labs, including ASTM D6400 and EN 13432. Both of these standards evaluate across four areas: biodegradation, degradation, eco-toxicity, and heavy metals.
You can locate an industrial composting site near you or email us at help@blueland.com. If your area doesn’t have an industrial composting option, we can set up a return of your empty pouches for you! Once we have them back, we’ll handle their proper return to a trusted industrial composting facility. Our team is always standing by to help!
Our tablet wrappers and refill pouches are industrially compostable and are not designed for curbside recycling. They are made to break down in commercial composting facilities under specific heat and microbial conditions. Our shipping boxes and paper-based materials are recyclable, and our Forever Bottles are designed for long-term reuse and can be recycled at the end of their lifespan.
At Blueland, we are committed to creating high-quality content you can trust on the topics you and your family care about.
