When it comes to keeping your home safe and clean, you might think that checking ingredient lists is enough–but did you know that common household products can be harmful based on their bottles and containers alone? From microplastics and dyes to VOCs and lead, conventional cleaning products may expose your household to concerning compounds regardless of how clean their formula might be. That’s why, at Blueland, we go the extra mile to make sure your cleaning products are safe—inside and out.
Our Hand Soap bottles are made of glass. Our Forever Bottles for Powder Dish Soap are made of high-grade silicone—reusable, ultra durable, dishwasher-safe, and BPA-free. Our Glass + Mirror, Multi-Surface and Bathroom cleaning bottles are all made from tritan—a durable, shatter-resistant and lightweight material that’s BPA-free, antimony-free and contains no VOCs or phthalates. It has also undergone US FDA testing and has low leachability (per US FDA Regulation 21). We are also proud to share that our bottles received the Platinum Material Health Certificate from Cradle 2 Cradle!
At Blueland, we hold ourselves to the highest standards for environmental health and household safety, which is why we opt to have our products—from formula to container—tested, vetted, and certified safe by trusted third-party organizations. For example, our glass hand soap bottles undergo a toxic elements test from Intertek—a global leader in quality assurance—in which they’re tested and confirmed to be free from lead, mercury and cadmium, among other common chemical elements of concern. We have every step of the manufacturing process evaluated, down to the coating used to create our bottle labels. With an element like lead, home-kits typically can test for 500ppm, but Intertek’s tests are validated by the scientific community and significantly more sensitive—testing as low as 20ppm. You can view our Intertek testing results here and here. In addition to third party testing, we also require letters of compliance from all of our suppliers that you can see here. From the EPA to Cradle to Cradle, our products and the vessels they come in are certified safe for your home and family. You can learn more about our other third-party certifications here!
Blueland was co-founded by a mom who wanted her kids to grow up in a world (and in a home!) that was clean, safe, and free from as many potentially harmful ingredients and materials as possible. That’s why, from day one, innovation, transparency, and accountability have been at the heart of everything we do. We’re not only here to create the safer option—we’re here to make it so that the choice that’s safer for your family and better for the planet is the easiest one you have to make.
